Braces or aligners: what to choose?

There is no universal answer.

Brackets are locks that the doctor glues to the teeth. An arch made of a special alloy passes through all the locks. It presses on the teeth with the necessary force and gradually moves them. The doctor regularly changes them arches - the movement becomes more precise. The braces are constantly on the teeth: you cannot remove them yourself. under pressure. The difference is how this pressure is created and who controls it.

Brackets are a more powerful tool. They transfer more force to the tooth and allow you to control complex movements: rotation of teeth, vertical movements, changes in root inclination. That is why, in case of severe malocclusion, orthodontists often choose braces.

Braces are suitable, if:

• Teeth crowding is severe or the bite is significantly disturbed
• You need complex movements that aligners cannot handle
• You are not sure that you will be able to maintain a wearing regime of 20-22 hours a day
• Budget is limited: metal braces are more affordable than most aligners

No need to be afraid of braces because of their appearance. Ceramic systems - GC Experience aesthetic and Damon Clear - are matched to the color of the enamel and are almost invisible on the teeth.

Aligners are a good choice for patients who want discreet treatment and who are ready for discipline. Remove the aligners for meals, brush your teeth as usual, and put them back on.

Aligners are suitable if:

• Crowding or misalignment of teeth moderate
• Want to be treated unnoticed: at work, in communication, in photos
• Are you ready to wear aligners 20–22 hours a day without skipping a day
• Convenience of hygiene is important to you

The main limitation of aligners is discipline. manage to move according to the plan and the treatment is delayed or does not give the desired result.

This is a real risk that is not always talked about. Aligners require a strict regime: 20–22 hours a day. If you wear less, the teeth do not have time to move during one aligner. The orthodontist sees this during a follow-up examination and prescribes additional aligners or refinements.

С There is no such problem with braces: they work constantly, without the participation of the patient.

Almost - but not all. Modern systems with attachments (small protrusions made of composite that give the aligners an additional point of support) cope with a wider range of problems than a few years ago. But with severe malocclusions, complex teeth rotations or preparation for surgical treatment, braces remain more reliable tool.

If the orthodontist says that your problem can be solved with both braces and aligners, the choice is yours. If he recommends braces, most likely there is a clinical basis for this.

Both systems are available at the KAN clinic in Tashkent.

Brackets: metal GC Experience (classic and self-ligating), Damon Q - and aesthetic GC Experience and Damon Clear with ceramic locks. Read more at braces page for adults.

Aligners: Angel Aligner - three packages depending on complexity, and Invisalign - seven packages for any task. More details on the page Angel Aligner and Invisalign.

The orthodontist disassembles both. systems in relation to your case during consultation - with specific arguments, not general recommendations.

It is difficult to independently assess the complexity of your case and choose a system. One patient thinks that he has “nothing serious,” but it turns out that he has a complex bite. Another is sure that he needs braces, and the orthodontist says that aligners will do a great job.

During the consultation, the doctor looks at the teeth and bite, and if necessary, takes a photo and explains: which system is suitable, why, how long the treatment will take and what it will cost. If both options are suitable, discuss and choose together.

If you can’t decide what to choose, come for a consultation at KAN in Tashkent. The orthodontist will examine your teeth, explain which systems are suitable for your case, and help you make a decision. The consultation is free and does not oblige you to anything.
