Two-stage implantation is a classic method of installing a dental implant, in which the treatment is divided into two surgical stages with a break between them. At the first stage, the implant is implanted into the bone and completely covered by the gum, remaining at rest until it fuses with the bone. At the second, the gum is opened again and installed a former, and then a permanent crown.
Closed healing protects the implant from stress and bacteria in the most vulnerable period - while fusion with the bone is taking place. Therefore, the method remains the standard where the doctor cannot take risks: in case of insufficient bone volume, after a long absence of a tooth, or in anatomically complex cases.

When the method is not used:acute inflammatory processes in the oral cavity, decompensated diabetes mellitus, active cancer, pregnancy, severe systemic diseases affecting bone healing.
