Upper jaw implantation

The bone here is softer. On the lower jaw the bone is dense and hard - the implant is fixed in it reliably from the first day. On the upper jaw it is more like a sponge: less dense inside, with a thin outer layer. Because of this, the implant needs more time to truly grow into the bone - 4–6 months instead of 2–4.

The maxillary sinuses are located close. In the area of the lateral upper teeth – the sixth and seventh – the maxillary sinuses are located directly above the roots. After tooth extraction, they gradually descend lower, and there is less space for the implant. If there is less than 8 mm left, the implant simply will not fit without additional space. operations.

The bone decreases quickly. After tooth removal, the upper jaw loses volume noticeably more actively than the lower jaw. After a year, there is already much less bone in the place of the tooth than immediately after the removal. That is why the sooner you contact, the easier and shorter the treatment.

Not everyone and not always need a sinus lift. If you have to restore the upper front teeth - incisors or canines - the maxillary sinuses have nothing to do with it at all, and this question does not even arise.

In the area of the lateral teeth, everything depends on how much bone is left between the sinuses and gums. If it is more than 8 mm, the implant is placed without any additions. If from 5 to 8 mm, the doctor performs a closed sinus lift: a small intervention, which is often combined with the installation of an implant in one visit. If it is less than 5 mm, an open sinus lift is needed: a more serious operation, after which the bone heals 4-6 months before the next step.

Only a CT image gives an accurate answer. Diagnocat measures the required distance with millimeter accuracy - and it often turns out that a sinus lift is not needed where the patient already expected it.

If you have been postponing the restoration of your upper teeth for a long time because you heard about problems with the bone or were afraid of a sinus lift - come for a diagnosis. Diagnocat will accurately measure the height of the bone and the doctor will honestly tell you what is realistic in your situation: is preparation needed, which method is suitable and how long will the treatment take. Many patients leave the consultation with a much simpler plan than expected.
